Styling
Styling can bring your story to life by utilizing wardrobe that catches light and adds visual interest, texture, and beauty.
Whether you are interested in borrowing items from our Client Closet (more information below) or looking for suggestions to find some items of your own, my goal is to help you create a cohesive style that reflects who you are and what you aspire for in your storytelling images. Styling can be such a powerful way to enrich your storytelling along with connection; it enables you to be beautifully composed with the landscape and to coordinate with one another and set the mood.
My photography style is typically warm and earthy. Hopefully you have had a chance to take a look at my social media pages and website to familiarize yourself with my work. In order to achieve that warmth and glow, I will work with you to select your perfect wardrobe that will illuminate the beautiful rays of golden hour.
Below are some tips to get you started on your wardrobe selection. Consider me your personal stylist and feel free to send me your ideas and I will guide you every step of the way.
Aim for neutrals, earthy tones, and metallics to catch the light...these colors compliment so many different backdrops and look beautiful printed and framed and in most everyone's homes. Softer tones allow the backdrop, light and connection to be the primary focus, and although I love bold colors, they can detract from your images! So, instead of a bright blue, go for a softer blue/grey or instead of a coral orange, opt for a warm light rust or a soft, muted red.
By choosing fabrics that move and flow, you let the style palette blend with light and create true MAGIC. Materials that have a beautiful, soft texture will get picked up by the wind or breeze, filter in the golden hour sun, and glow in the soft morning light...adding a perfect touch to your storytelling. I recommend fabrics such as linens, cottons or soft sheer materials and calm patterns, that can illuminate light and add that touch of warmth + glow. For families I recommend to keep the color palette to no more than four colors that compliment one another, warm or cool, and no more than one pattern for up to four people, one more pattern or stripe for more than four.
